Kani Paisley Wool Shawl — Maroon

Kani is one of the oldest and most labour-intensive weaves in the world. Each motif on this shawl is built up using small wooden bobbins called ‘kanis’, with the weaver following a coded chart known as a talim — a single line of which can take an entire day at the loom. The result is a dense, tapestry-like surface where the pattern is woven into the fabric itself, not embroidered on top. This piece carries the classic Kashmiri paisley (buta) running across a deep maroon ground, accented with antique gold and ivory. The fine merino wool blend gives it a soft, warm drape that suits both men and women — equally at home over a sherwani, a coat, or layered with a saree at a winter wedding. Hand-finished with knotted tassels and a subtle ribbon edge.
